Charleston & Folly Beach - Back in June!

Ok, I confess... vacation is so much fun and so much work! Back in June, Greg had a week long business trip in Charleston so we decided to tag along and make it a vacation! We drove and Mimi flew in from Atlanta. We had SO much fun! The first 3 days we were in downtown Charleston taking in all the sights ... yes, mostly shopping! That's what we girls love to do! And of course, eating lots of yummy seafood! Mid week, we moved to the Holiday Inn on the beach in Folly Beach - it was awesome! We (me & mom) were a bit worried because there were no suites, so all 5 of us were in just your basic hotel room with 2 double beds. You can't hardly complain, when you're staying on the beach front - for free! Got to love those Holiday Inn points! Anyway, it worked and we had a super, great time! The girls loved the pool and especially the sand and ocean! Ella wanted someone to hold her hand while in the waves, but when they would crash, she could yell "GERONIMO"! A couple of times, when water got in her face she would say geronimo got me! Kaeley had the best time swimming and quickly made several friends at the pool. It amazes me that she can be so painfully shy, but she still manages to make friends where ever we are!

Grandma's and New Cousin!

It's official - the girl's have another cousin! Luke Thomas Baskin was born to Greg's sister, Ginelle, her husband - Buck, and their other son - Owen, on Friday, July 24th. He weighed 8lbs 3oz and was 20 3/4". He is PRECIOUS if I do say so myself! We made the trip to Manchester last week to visit. The girls ABSOLUTELY love going to Grandma's! They were disappointed that Greg and I were tagging along on this trip because twice this summer they have been able to stay at Grandma's without us. Here are a few pictures I took while we were there...

Swimming, Ears, and Pigs!

What a blog title! It was one crazy day! Both girls, well all 3 of us, including me, finished up an 8 day swim class with our favorite swim teacher - Ms. Mildred! I'm very pleased to report, Ella Beth is a swimmer! We need to work on improving form and breathing, but this child can go off the diving board and swim 1/2 the length of Ms. Mildred's pool! Pretty impressive considering 8 days ago we screamed when having our hair washed! I'm also happy to report that miraculously ended on day 1 of swim! Yeah! Why didn't I do this a year ago?!? Day 8 of swim class is called Show and Tell, so Ella's class was at 10, Papaw was able to come and see her big performance and it was also when she got to open her new swimming baby that she has named Sara. That was her reward for completing her swim class. She wanted Ms. Mildred to teach her baby how to swim before class ended, and so she did! Kaeley's Show and Tell was at 12. My sweet girl... she just doesn't perform well with all the parents there. We were at the pool the night before and she was swimming so good, but something about all the attention, she just doesn't like it. She is doing FANTASTIC though! After her class, we ran into Anna Katherine, Jessica's 3 year old daughter, who was in Ella's swim class. Her reward for swimming was getting her ears pierced. Well, this 3 year told my 6 year old that it did not hurt bad. We got in the car and while in Ms. Mildred's driveway, Kaeley said, "When can I get my ears pierced?" I said whenever you want to and she said "TODAY!" Oh my! I wasn't expecting that. Then my 3 1/2 year old chimes in... I want mine pierced too. And yes, the "you're too little" line wouldn't work since Anna had just had her's done - Thanks Jessica! Anyway, I told Papaw the girls wanted it done and he insisted on treating them! Imagine that! So, we had to get some numbing cream from Jessica and on the way to go and get it I told Ella that we had to go get some cream for her ears. She informed me she wanted earrings not cream! I still thought she would chicken out once we got to Claire's, but she went first! Once poked, had a big frown, a couple of tears, and then was happy. As Ms. Mildred would say "Blink, blink - SMILE!" Then the drama of the 6 year old set in. She was ready to go home with no earrings! I said, "Oh, no you don't!" She was just terrified it would hurt, so they told her they would pierce one ear so she could see how it would feel, then the other... I know that sounds crazy, but for whatever reason, she bought that line and they stuck both ears and the same time. When she started crying, they said "you're all done!" She for sure shed more tears than Ella, but she dried them up quickly and was so happy! Did I mention, I had to hold her? My sweet, sweet girl!

On to the piggie story... well, my other sweet, sweet girl, begs to see the blow up pig that you can see from the interstate at Famous Dave's Bar-b-q. Let me just tell you, that it's rarely up and she begs to see it EVERY time we drive towards Knoxville. Yesterday it was up and we had a few minutes to spare. We stopped by for a picture. She thought it was real and that it was going to start walking. I tried to assure her that it was not and that it was just like a big balloon and pointed out that it was tied down. I did manage to get a couple of pics, although she was not a fan of standing close to it. She loved it though, just a little intimidated. Kaeley on the other hand was pulling it's curly tail. I told her to stop that it might fall over. When we were leaving Ella said she thought it was going to fall over in 3 minutes. I love the detail "in 3 minutes"! They also had a piggie mailbox... she thought that was WAAAAYYYY cool! Ella Beth and her love of pigs! Earlier in the week, she asked me how old Mama Pig was... her stuffed piggie she sleeps with EVERY night. I told her I didn't know, I guess she's 3. She said, "no, I think she's 10." PRECIOUS! Here are some pictures and a video for you to enjoy!
